FiBL Europe – Research Institute of Organic Agriculture
FiBL Europe is the Brussels office representing FiBL (Forschungsinstitut für biologischen Landbau) – Research Institute of Organic Agriculture. FiBL is one of the world’s leading institutes in the field of organic agriculture, animal welfare and agroecology. The institute’s strengths lie in its interdisciplinary research, innovations developed jointly with farmers and the food industry, solution-oriented development projects and rapid knowledge transfer from research into practice. Along with practical research, FiBL places a high priority on advisory work, training courses and providing specialist information. In long-term trials, FiBL employees conduct research on local and organic farming systems, offering expertise in market development. FiBL is collaborating with the umbrella organisation of the organic agriculture movement IFOAM – Organics International, and for research and development projects, FiBL partners with the EU, FAO and other national and international institutions. The ecological, economic and social transformation of global food systems is an important topical issue for FiBL, and to address it, the Institute draws on public funding, grants from foundations, and funding from innovative businesses. It has formulated eleven new core missions, such as Plant breeding for agroecological and organic cropping systems, and Use of digital technology in modern organic farming, and using these, FiBL aims to place organic farming, animal welfare and agroecology at the heart of the agri-food sector.
